German Umlaut problem with Z-Push and WebApp in Docker environment
-
Hallo Community,
I’m migrating my current Debian 9 (OMV) Kopano installation to Debian 11 Docker environment using the latest official Kopano docker containers from docker hub (currently in Hyper-V VM on windows) with a modified docker-compose configuration without ldap from the demo installation on github.
After sorting out all problems and get anything working again I stuck on the german umlauts ä,ö,ü for 2 days now. The umlauts are wrong on folders in Webapp and in mail and appointment subjects in Z-Push (Outlook) and Webapp. The contact names are also wrong.I’m using my current database, which was created 2013 with zarafa on Synology NAS. In 2016 I could fix the umlaut problem by removing setLocale() in zarafa config.php and setting the de_DE.UTF-8 locale in php fpm directly. This workaround does not work my current kopano “production” installation from 2018. There I had to change the LANG environment for apache server to fix the german umlauts.
Because the docker environment is using Kopano Web server all know fixes seems not working.- I tried setting locale in kopano server.
- Map host etc/default/locale with de_DE.UTF-8 locale readonly into docker containers.
- Change or add setLocale(…) in kopano.php or config.php in docker containers and restart the services inside the containers.
No luck and not further ideas. On new mails the umlauts working. I don’t know where the conversion problem occurs. In Kopano server or php.
My current debian 9 “production” environment uses the following versions:
- kopano-server: 8.7.81.219
- web-app: 3.5.8.2339
- z-push: 2.6.2
Docker container using the following versions:
- kopano-server: 11.0.1.101
- web-app: 6.0.0.22
- z-push: 2.6.2
Thanks for any help and advice.

@thctlo Thanks for the tip. But it doesn’t help. The umlauts are still wrong.
Because we have only 2 users and about 1GB mails and appointment I will save anything locally in outlook, create users from scratch and copy anything back over outlook. So hopefully the umlaut problem is gone.
