Kopano Core und Update auf UCS 5.0
-
Version gibt. For me, Kopano is dead.
Unfortunately, it is not honestly said here how it stands around Kopano.
But you can find e.g. on linkedin Bob Huisman who left Kopano in 2021. Also some freelance developers are gone or (webapp) changed to grommunio! -
@drauer can you update us? it’s been a while with no communication from Kopano.
-
@sgvfr Sure: The installation on 4.4 and 5.0 is working fine, but an update of UCS from 4.4 to 5.0 with Kopano installed is causing some issues we need to fix before it can be released.
-
@drauer that sounds good. I am not updating my installation. I have removed it in order to upgrade to ucs5. Am I able to install now without problems?

We cannot say for sure, thats why we have not yet released the version for UCS 5.0 … We did several installs on 5.0 and some tests afterwards, but there are still some issues with this version.
-
I was testing it. the main problem is the univention appcenter. after two years of corona its no wonder that things take a little longer.
upgrade went ok so far, but some modifications still missing.
so you also can install a version without ucs and migrate database and attachments, if it´s taking too long. -
@cpzengel do you know if it’s possible to connect with LDAP to my UCS domain for authentication if I install on a separate server without UCS ??

We are currently waiting for Univention to fix an issue occuring on certain scenarios. After that we will have another round of testing and hopefully be able to release the new version that is upgradable to UCS 5.
-
@drauer Hello, just checking on the progress, any update on the UCS fixes?
Thank you!
-
@sgvfr I am sorry, but there is no update regarding this issue. Univention is still figuring out how to solve this.
-
@drauer can you elaborate on what the issue is during certain scenarios?
Thanks -

Sure: It is an issue if Kopano is installed on a secondary node; installing and upgrading on the primary node works fine. But we cannot release an app only for primary installations, and as this will break quite a number of installations we currently cannot release the app at all.
-
@drauer sorry to beat the horse some more… any update?

We are still waiting for news from Univention … In the meantime we found another issue, but that is something we are currently fixing, and which does not solve the package conflict Univention has to fix.
-
Now it’s nearly one year! It’s getting ridiculous. Kopano points at Univention and
Univenstion at Kopano, but no one has an honest interest to solve that problem! We are a paying customer and getting no information.
I’m going to advice our CEO to swap from univention to a working solution like
grommunio or something similar. -

Thanks, that is the answer I’ve expected. No apology, no regret, just I give a shit about customers.

I cannot apologize for or regret something that is not in my hands. And if I gave a shit about customers or the community I would simply not write here.
But I also cannot make everyone happy. If you cannot wait any longer for Kopano on UCS5 than it is as it is. -
Hello,
it’s a shame to see one participant’s discussion posts slipping into the unprofessional like this. Some users may have given up, but many will continue to be interested in the current status. Univention has promised a weekly status update, but has not commented for almost 20 days now and unfortunately seems to ignore inquiries. Therefore I hope to hear something new from the diligent Kopano team at this point. Is there any progress in fixing the bugs in the update path? How far have the subsequent tests progressed? Is there a rough estimate for a release date? -
@abraeumer Thanks for asking. We had a major breakthrough just today, first tests ran today and will be finalized probably tomorrow and if all works well than we will hand out the integration to Univention in order to release it. This process usually takes some days, so if things work as planned there could be a new version in the App Center during next week which will allow to upgrade UCS systems with Kopano installed from 4.4 to 5.0.
Here is a screenshot from one of my test systems, a 5.0 upgraded from 4.4 with Core and WebApp installed. But before today this needed a manual tweak in order to get it running after the upgrade, and that is nothing we wanted to ship before this is fixed.
So thanks for everyone being patient: There is light at the end of the tunnel. :)
