Kopano Core und Update auf UCS 5.0
-
I dont understand this way of working.
Kopano, one of the important apps is not available - and nobody knows about how, when and what. And hey… how long UCS 5 is out? What date we have now?
How long it should be?Thats more then disappointing.
We are using a registered (and payed) UCS and Kopano Version (->Support).
Our CEO has told us today: we are thinking about moving to (yes i must say that name) MS 365.
The are working 24/7 and this horrible update situation are never be there for customer like us.You loose your customer with this behavior.

@bforpc you should complain at UCS…
These guys need to adopt it.You have a supported version, you can easy fix you problem just buy dropping UCS and use kopano as is.
And it makes your server also about 10-20% faster (as i noticed)…Just may saying on this subject.
Yes, i also looked at UCS5, and i just didnt like it and thats mainly how it uses its settings.
-
we have more than 150 Users, Desktop logins via UCS and much more from UCS.
Do you realy think, we wouldn’t change, if we can?
Maybe in your 2 user enviroment, you can drop UCS and use kopano single side system. For us: we had moved at first of the month to microsoft, because nobody can or will help and nobody knows anything about the future of (kopano-) updates. I dont like MS and use Thunderbird on my linux workstations - but - the management is right: it works and nobody of us have trouble with the mail system - it just works.
Actual state at Kopano web seite:
The Debian Developers Carsten Schoenert and Guido Günther are currently busy packaging and updating Kopano Core and Kopano WebApp for inclusion in the upcoming Debian release (Debian Buster). Additionally Debian Maintainer Roel van Meer is busy repackaging Z-Push for inclusion in the official Debian repositories. When running Debian Testing or Unstable Kopano can already be installed, see https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=kopano for a list of packages available.
Debian Buster? Should I say more? By by Kopano, by by UCS, RIP

p.s. I’m shure, i am not the only one. At this case, kopano loose a lot of users and loose the reputation.

@bforpc
same situation but as long as debian buster and 8.7.24 work, I’ll let it go. Let’s see what happens during this time. Either I switch to grommunio or Kopano is smart and forks them like it was done with them ;)
There is still time ;)
MS would be the very last thing -

Hi.
Kopano4UCS will be available for UCS5 soon: Some final tweaks are needed, and afterwards it needs to be tested thoroughly.
You can always drop an email directly to Kopano, or give them a call. This is the community forum which is of course not monitored as closely as the official channels.

@bforpc the bussiness where i works using zarafa/kopano since 2009…
Why do you think i have 2 users? You know, my old boss always said, asumption is the mother of all fuckups and yes, i changed a 150 user network on this already…i moved out UCS, but hee… if it works for you, it works for you…
If you want newer kopano, then use docker and the zorkan images. -
There are any news? It’s been now nearly 8 month without any news. We are using UCS with a paid license and getting now into trouble cause we need to update to UCS5 to use the needed new version of openoffice. But we can’t do that, because Kopano isn’t avaiable for UCS5.
When the update will be avaiable? And who is the new developer of kopano4ucs?

Version gibt. For me, Kopano is dead.
Unfortunately, it is not honestly said here how it stands around Kopano.
But you can find e.g. on linkedin Bob Huisman who left Kopano in 2021. Also some freelance developers are gone or (webapp) changed to grommunio! -
@drauer can you update us? it’s been a while with no communication from Kopano.
-
@sgvfr Sure: The installation on 4.4 and 5.0 is working fine, but an update of UCS from 4.4 to 5.0 with Kopano installed is causing some issues we need to fix before it can be released.
-
@drauer that sounds good. I am not updating my installation. I have removed it in order to upgrade to ucs5. Am I able to install now without problems?

We cannot say for sure, thats why we have not yet released the version for UCS 5.0 … We did several installs on 5.0 and some tests afterwards, but there are still some issues with this version.
-
I was testing it. the main problem is the univention appcenter. after two years of corona its no wonder that things take a little longer.
upgrade went ok so far, but some modifications still missing.
so you also can install a version without ucs and migrate database and attachments, if it´s taking too long. -
@cpzengel do you know if it’s possible to connect with LDAP to my UCS domain for authentication if I install on a separate server without UCS ??

We are currently waiting for Univention to fix an issue occuring on certain scenarios. After that we will have another round of testing and hopefully be able to release the new version that is upgradable to UCS 5.
-
@drauer Hello, just checking on the progress, any update on the UCS fixes?
Thank you!
-
@sgvfr I am sorry, but there is no update regarding this issue. Univention is still figuring out how to solve this.
-
@drauer can you elaborate on what the issue is during certain scenarios?
Thanks -
@drauer can you elaborate on what the issue is during certain scenarios?
Sure: It is an issue if Kopano is installed on a secondary node; installing and upgrading on the primary node works fine. But we cannot release an app only for primary installations, and as this will break quite a number of installations we currently cannot release the app at all.
-
@drauer sorry to beat the horse some more… any update?
