Automatic WebApp entry resolving prevents internal email?
-
Hello everyone,
Just a warning: For the learning curve and fun of it I am playing around and setup a server system with Samba4 AD, Kopano-Core, Sendmail & DAgent, WebApp on different servers. I finally got it to work (at least in parts ;-) Now I run into an issue I do not know whether it is a feature or a bug.
I have created a Kopano user “FIRSTNAME LASTNAME” via AD with a dedicated email address, the latter for example is “PUBLIC-EMAIL@t-online.de”. The according kopano user has the username & email “USER_A@KOPANO-SERVER.COM” (“Alias” in picture 1). If I enter the internal email “USER_A@KOPANO-SERVER.COM” into WebApp as recipient, it is automatically converted to the contact detail of “FIRSTNAME LASTNAME”. And now the problem starts. During the conversion it seems to change the “internal” email “USER_A@KOPANO-SERVER.COM” to the “external” email “PUBLIC-EMAIL@t-online.de”. Therefore my SMTP server cannot identify that the email was intended to be send as an internal email and sends the email to the external relay server. This somehow is bad, since I want some email not to leave the internal network. And now my question:
- is this the email change expected behaviour? Looks like at least to https://documentation.kopano.io/user_manual_webapp/mail.html?highlight=resolv#using-the-check-names-functionality
- Can I somehow prevent this in WebApp?
- Is there a workaround?
I am happy for any advise :-)
Cheers

Hi @fixundfertig123 ,
breaking down your post this is the actual “issue” correct?

in that case you should add a transport map letting your mta know that this message is indeed meant for local delivery.

working with mail domains from mass hosters will mostly give you headaches, I would recommend to buy a mail domain of your own and use that for your emailing needs. you could then still collect mail from these accounts (via fetchmail or getmail), but use your new maildomain to send messages out (and of course receive with it as well)

Hi @fbartels, thanks a lot for you answers. From your answer I could not yet fully understand whether my assumption is correct, that WebApp (not Kopano-core) is changing the email address automatically after entering it into WebApp. It would be great if you could provide me information this.

@fixundfertig123
Possibly, your observations are related to WebApp’s autocomplete-feature:
Maybe you’ll find useful information here.++umgfoin.

I would think that in this case its webapp.
