Nightly builds
-
waiting for nightly builds to come up soon…
-
I worte to kopano support and asked for new nightly builds.
The support answerd within hours and i got an information that there was an certificate error and nightly builds will be availabe again soon.
-
I think there would need to be development first before one would get a nightly build.
Last commit to the Kopano Core repository was November 17, 2021
-
@tiredofit i see a later one.
8.7.25 (2022-02-01)
https://github.com/Kopano-dev/kopano-core/commit/4e72fdac8621d7b52d6f976f6c607f3dc6e1267b -
@tiredofit
got a new answer from kopano
they stopped developing on community version because to many users switch vom payed version to community version.
so commuinty version will be dead soon -
This decision will not bring back one person to the paid version. So goodbye Kopano, RIP.

@klipp
Thanks for update. It is disappointing news for sure, I would like to hear from Kopano in this forum. Ever since the Grommunio incident in early 2021 there has been lots of confusion and uncertainty. I have my thoughts on what’s really going on but they are just thoughts and I’d just add to the rumor mill if I shared them.So I will join the sentiment that this project is dead and I would be surprised if it is revived. What a way to go out.

These are bad news, irgendwas ist halt immer.

Or is this the new kind of transperency they promised ? -
@ichi123

@ichi123
I wrote to kopano commercial support and they answerd to me -

and? Please share the Information, thanks

@sinux
as mentioned above
they stopped developing the community version because too many users switch from payed subscriptions to nightly builds.many of these users tired to get support without a subscription in community forum from kopano employees and so kopano stopped community support for all
the last sentence of this mail
it has not been decided when and if there will be new releases for community and up to date nightly builds -
@klipp thanks klipp well then Kopano has to pay its software testers and quality management again
-
@sinux
tried to send a private message to you but your policy does not allow it -
@klipp thx, wait
-
@klipp and now?

What a pity. I’ve used this groupware since the Zarafa 6.x days…
There’s no real hobbyist offer either. I myself have a mail server with 6 accounts for my family. Their solution starts at 150€/year for 10 users… And I won’t definitly pay for my private mail system.
Of course Kopano can do whatever they want with their software, they should just make an official statement about it then. It’s been
What they can’t do is stopping redistribute the source, because their license stipulates AGPLv3… But since the git repositories haven’t been updated since november 2021, I guess they stopped doing so.Whatever, Kopano has burnt me already once, when stopping their Zarafa Home Edition.
Again, it’s their software and business, so they don’t need to consider users like me which don’t bring money at the end of the day.Time has come for me to seek an alternative.
There are AFAIK a few 100% outlook compatible groupwares:- Sogo (with EAS support), totally free, existing since 10+ years
- Grommunio, a kopano/zarafa fork, free up to 5 users, reasonably priced for more, with I guess a nice admin panel, exists since 1,5years or so
The Grommunio reverse migration path frightens me a bit (no export to PST) as seen on their internet site.
I dont’ have any experience with those Groupwares yet, as I always sticked to Zarafa/Kopano.
Can anyone comment on those ?
RIP Kopano. I will remember you for what you once were.

@deajan
Doesn’t the mobile connection to sogo cost something?
Kopano can also only import pst no export!
I myself will wait until the middle of next year to see how Kopano develops. -

AFAIK it’s always been totally free. Although recently there’s a commercial build by french company Alinto.

Yes, and it’s usually a bad point when no real export tool exists (eml files isn’t just a good method). At least Kopano ship Gilles Lamiral’s ImapSync which allows to workaround missing export functionality, even if it’s a more a mess than it should be.

So do I, but it’s good to know which solutions exist beforehand.
