Quality of kontactpictures are gone after sync with Z-Push
-
Hello,
found the issue. I migrated over Outlook, because i was not able to import most of the vcards. Maybe the problem there was wrong UTF…
So i’ve seen if i import over Outlook, pictures be a little bit smaller. Bad Outlook. Ok, i imported the pictures over kopano, and everything was fine.https://wiki.z-hub.io/display/ZP/Debugging
Yes this is fine.Thanks

Not solved ;(
Running Kopano 8.7.1 on UCS 4.4.1
at some time from about 50% the of pictures the quality is gone. It does not really have anything to do with z-push. And yes it is hard reproducible. But what have we done in the last month? Open contacts, edit they, save they. And i remember a contact that i’ve added for about a week. I imported a contact directly in kopano. In the vcard there was already a picture 200kb high quality. So the next step is on every import the same: After the import the picture is fine, high quality. After the first save, or change of something in the contact, the quality is gone away.
So, now we readd the contactpicture from harddisk. Quality is fine, save again - fine. Edit some in the contact, save, fine. But after some ??? you edit the contact, change nothing, or change something, does not matter, save the contact and the quality is gone.
We have no Kopano @3 customers, and here by me @home. Same thing with the pictures. So looks like a bug!
Thanks a lot :)

save the contact and the quality is gone
In Outlook over activesync? If yes, please provide a wbxml.

We use here no Outlook, only over the Web or Deskapp.

@boospy then this is the wrong section of the forum (as this one is about Z-Push). Let me move you over to the WebApp section.

@boospy I’m trying to distill the problem from the descriptions. Do I understand correctly that the contact picture remains in place, but after you edit it in WebApp the quality of the image is reduced?
So the reference to Z-Push is purely because you see the degraded quality on your mobile?

And es after first edit, it was gone. And yes you can see this live @you click on the savebutton @webapp and have the contact open on the mobile phone.

Zpush damage all pictures, so nice big pictures, are reduced in unusable quality. The kopano support talked to the zpush dev’s, they known about the issue, but they can’t find the reason.

Just because this statement gives the impression that its a bug within Kopano/Z-Push, I want to add the following:
- z-push does not process (resize, convert) pictures that clients send to it
- therefore z-push is not the one downscaling the pictures
- the client is downscaling it and therefore reducing quality of the image stored in Kopano
which is also what was written to you in KS-43700.

@boospy This is actually not true and it gives the wrong impression (as @fbartels already mentioned). In addition to what was already written here again, and was written in the support case you opened I would like to add another detail that explains what happens:
The reason why you see high quality pictures on your mobile device if and only if you have added them from that device is that the mobile keeps the high quality version of the picture in a local cache. It never sends the high quality picture to Z-Push / ActiveSync / Kopano, instead it sends a downscaled version (perhaps to reduce bandwidth usage).
If any other client (could be a mobile device, could be a DAV client, could be WebApp/DeskApp) changes the contact, the cache on the your mobile is considered dirty and the contact will be re-synced with the data from Kopano - this is, again behavior of the mobile client. This is behavior of the mobile client and not something that can be avoided / changed in Z-Push.
Both cases are explained in the support case, and reproduction steps are given (resync the mobile device).

Thanks a lot. I completely misunderstood this. I phoned also this day again with the support :) I am only surprised that this does not bother anyone. I collected photos of my contacts for many years, as this is the easiest way to recognize someone immediately :)
So has anyone a idea how we can say to the bad android to sync the high-quality photo? I will talk about this with people in androidforums, maybe the know, or have some ideas for this.
