Problem with display of Emails in Outlook for Windows
-
Thanks Felix,
(Just found out, I cannot upload pictures in my response for whatever reasons so please try to understand without my screenshots, sorry):My Office365 account shows emails in the inbox categorized by the tabs “Relevant” and “Sonstige”. That works perfectly o.k.
In the Outlook inbox of my Kopano-ActiveSync account, there are 2 different tabs, showing “ALL” and “unread” emails. On first sight that looks o.k. as well.
BUT the listed Emails are not all Emails in the inbox of the Kopano server. Only a fraction of the Emails are displayed/listed. When I now use my Samsung S8 with Outlook for Android and select the inbox of my Kopano account, that is added as Exchange account I see all Emails and I see the tabs “Relevant” and “Sonstige” and Emails are listed under both tabs. When I now compare both inboxes of the same account (on Outlook for Windows and on Outlook for Android) I notice that precisely those Emails I can see on the Tab “Sonstige” on my S8 are completely missing on Outlook of my PC. They are even not listed under the tab “All”, they are completely hidden. To countercheck I looked in Kopano DeskApp for Ubuntu, all Emails are shown in the inbox of course, though not categorized into “relevant” and “sonstige”.
When I configure the Kopano account in Outlook as IMAP, all Emails are displayed as well.
So it seems a problem either in Outlook or an error in Kopano where some parameters or settings in the ActiveSync settings of that mailbox make Outlook for Windows hide these Emails.
Over to you …
Thanks

Hi @kbl4711,
unfortunately I only have the following tabs in my office 365 Outlook:
But when I read further then you are also only seeing these two tabs and you are getting the notion of the existence of these “categories” from somewhere else…
There are multiple reasons why emails may not be synced (and therefore probably not show) to outlook. The process is generally explained at https://wiki.z-hub.io/display/ZP/Loop+detection.
Maybe you want to get in touch with our support so they can have a closer look at your system.

Yes Felix, when I view the inbox of the Kopano account in Outlook for windows I see the tabs “ALL” and “unread” (not “Relevant” and “Sonstige”). But I see on Outlook for Android “Relevant” and “Sonstige”, indeed strange.
But the key-point is, that, in Outlook for Windows hides those Emails, that Outlook (somewhere) categorizes as “Sonstige”.
And I do not feel that the problem is , that the Emails are not synched. They are synched, otherwise they would not be visible in Outlook for Android.
I took a look at your link but think that this problem is different. I do not think it is a loop. Sync works in IMAP so Emails, that are already synched in IMAP are hidden as well. To me it looks like a bug in Kopano or Outlook. Another instance of Kopano used by a befriended doctor has the same problem. And, by the way, it worked before.
Thanks you anyway

If the emails are on the android device, it doesn’t mean they were synced to Outlook on Windows. Outlook over ActiveSync is pretty peculiar, so it would help if you would check for loops.
Run:
z-push-admin -a list -u username -d deviceid
(if you don’t know the device id, just run z-push-admin without -d)
You could also enable WBXML log for one user and check it if those emails are really being synced to Outlook.

Just had another long session with Microsoft US support trying to identify the problem. The “hidden” Emails are definitely there. There are 6281 email records in the inbox of Outlook and 6281 in Kopano Deskapp. The problem is, some 1000+ email records in Outlook are empty or displayed as empty. There are no empty Email records in KopanoDeskapp.
It looks that for whatever reason Outlook does not display the contents of these 1000+ “empty” emails.

when I read “display of Emails” and “version 8.6.8.2” I thought that you were talking about the effect that emails are displayed empty. Which is known for exactly this version and can be solved by upgrading to our latest release (fix was in 8.6.9 already).

As 8.6.9 is not yet available for Univention Corporate Server we bought a support subscription, installed Kopano 8.7 and now it works indeed. However, accounts have to be deleted and reinstalled within Outlook.

Hi, we have the same problem.
do you know when univention will do the update ? -
I want to start working on an update for the app once 8.7.1 is released. We are still ironing out some last issues in that release, but since this already takes longer than expected I don’t want to give a date at this moment.

@fbartels thank you for your reply. is there a mailing list to be notified of the release of the update ?

@exig updates of the Univention app? For this you could subscribe to https://www.univention.com/news/univention-app-center-en/
