2nd (shared) contact folder (within Public folders) sync is blocked w/ 'KOE patching incomplete'

Hi forum,
we created an global contact folder within Public folders (Everyone w/ full access rights) and also added this shared contact folder by KOE ‘Open shared folder’ at Outlook 2013 (Outlook/15.0 (15.0.5093.1001; C2R; x86)) and OL 2019 clients but sync seems to got stuck at 0% for this folder (only 2 entries in it for now) and folowing z-push-admin.php output:
Synchronized by user: xxxxx.yyyyyy ----------------------------------------------------- DeviceId: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Device type: WindowsOutlook UserAgent: Outlook/16.0 (16.0.11029.20104; x64) ActiveSync version: 14.0 First sync: 2018-12-11 14:32 Last sync: 2019-01-08 16:05 Sync Period: unlimited (0) Total folders: 17 Short folder Ids: Yes Synchronized folders: 14 (1 in progress) Synchronized data: Emails(8) Contacts Calendars(2) Notes Tasks GAB Synchronization progress: Folder: FIRMA Adressb.. When I copied/added a contact entry at one OL 2013 client this was synced into WebApp but not w/ other OL ActiveSync clients.
I found some older similar (fixed) bug (https://jira.z-hub.io/browse/ZP-1220) but we are using quite new
WebApp: 3.5.0.2047+85.1
Kopano Core: 8.6.9
z-push: 2.4.5Many Thanks for any hints,

Hi Robert,
was there a pop-up in Outlook saying it’s necessary to restart Outlook after adding an additional contacts folder? If yes, did you restart Outlook? If no, you need to restart Outlook in order this contact folder to become available.

Hi Manfred,

I don’t know exactly if a window appeared and OL was restartet, because the users opened the folder themselves via KOE tab at least at the 1st attempt.
After several attempts Outlook has been restarted several times, but probably not exactly after checking the box for the folder to be integrated in the KOE open folder dialog window. Is the exact order or immediate Outlook restart important here or doesn’t it matter? Since yesterday these computers were restarted completely, the sync status remained blocked unchanged (KOE patching incomplete). This shared contact folder is also visible in the hierarchy tree, just empty. Today I will try it again from the beginning with another client & restart Outlook immediately.
TIA, Robert

Hi Manfred,
after some attempts on another client it looks like special characters (in my case the brackets) of the contact folder name “FIRMA Adressbuch (geteilt)” are the cause for this problem. After renaming to “Geteiltes allgemeines AB” and re-integration in KOE 1. the mentioned hint window for the necessary OL restart appeared and 2. the synchronization works, the entries are visible :)
Another test contact folder with brackets does not show me the KOE hint window for the necessary OL restart at all and is as expected also empty with status “KOE patching incomplete”.
I find it strange that a shared calendar with the name “Vertriebs-Kalender (geteilt)” works at the same time.
Maybe this helps with debugging or at least a hint dialog that such folder names don’t work.Regards, Robert

Hi Robert,
I was able to reproduce it and we’re now looking if it’s something Outlook or KOE related and how difficult or easy is to fix it. For the moment just don’t use brackets in the shared folder names.

Maybe this helps with debugging or at least a hint dialog that such folder names don’t work.KOE handles contacts’ folders different from calendar folders, so that’s why the calendar folders don’t need patching.
