Kopano Core Install Fails on CentOS 7 Due to Missing Package

Attempting to follow the installation instructions in the manual for Kopano Core on CentOS 7, which is mentioned as a fully supported install target, I’m not trying to do anything odd here. I have the EPEL enabled, in case packages are needed from there. I download the tarball and there are three packages that the manual says must be installed before the others. But libical is not present and many of the remaining packages cannot be installed due to dependency issues, I assume because a critical base package does not exist.
Where do we go from here? That the package is just missing seems to be a non-starter.

No one has any feedback on the missing packages? There was a lot of rapid responses as to why my attempts to work around this were wrong, why I should have to pay if I wanted this to work, but when people pointed to the support matrix and told me to use CentOS 7 they overlooked that we did that first and it was missing packages. The silence here, but activity everywhere else to point out how wrong I was to not use CentOS 7 since it was on the support matrix, is very telling. Maybe criticism should be stalled in exchange for attempting to assist? If feels like the goal is to beat down someone trying to use the product unless they pay for support and to avoid helping. In fact, the other threads were actively harmful by pointing me to something that doesn’t even work!

you have only posted this two hours ago, please allow some time for someone to look at this. To help speed up the process you could post the commands that you tried to run and their output.
I can only say that in general installations on CentOS 7 are no problem, just did it yesterday.

I only expected faster feedback because my other threads were already berating me for not using CentOS 7 in minutes, but hours after they were giving me a hard time for not following the docs, the same people were ignoring that I had done exactly that and had only tested other options when this failed. Wasn’t looking for a rapid solution, but was not happy that this was being ignored while me trying to give Kopano a good chance had tried it on other platforms and that was used to try to make it look like I wasn’t doing things by the book and should not have expected it to work.

I can only say that in general installations on CentOS 7 are no problem, just did it yesterday.
No command to run. The package that is needed does not exist in the tarball. I just did an “ls” and all of the others were there, but that one was not. I assumed, wrongly, that it was not really needed and that the docs were old so I installed the two that were required (standard RPM installs) and then tried the others, but they had no way to resolve their dependencies, as expected with the package missing.
This was two days ago, as the packages are new nightly, maybe it has been added back in?

Don’t worry about trying to find a fix for this. Your community has gone so far out of its way to make sure that it is clear that asking questions here or wanting to run Kopano in production isn’t acceptable that we have failed you in our evaluation and have moved on. Our Zimbra install was up last night but @mcostan insisted that we come here. No idea why, he and his buddy used it as a chance to attack us the instant we posted. Message received. Kopano is not for production use and even talking about installation requires monetary payment. Nothing wrong with that, pretending that there is a community for the open source, though… that’s pretty shady.
Anyway, good luck in the future. But don’t worry about production readiness for us. We won’t be needing it.

I am a Kopano COMMUNITY user and therefore I gave you honest opinion.
I am very glad that you have found your preferred product, but in relation to Kopano and the community I do believe both that a) it is a great product and most importantly b) they do value community users and I have always been helped one way or another.
Anyway I am glad you found the product for you.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I just reviewed the parts in question and due to changes in package names (we moved libical and libvmime to more explicitly named packages to avoid package conflicts) the recommendation for package installation was indeed not correct anymore. I have just now pushed an update to the documentation.
Some of the things you wrote I do not want to stay the way so allow me one more reply (no attempt to change your mind, just want to correct some things).
Kopano is not for production use and even talking about installation requires monetary payment.
While the “brand name” Kopano is quite new, Zarafa is already a quite mature product (in other threads you also referred to the product already being ten years old). Talking about installation does not require monetary support, but we of course also have to focus on where to earn money to pay developers and qa & support staff. This on the one hand means that we focus our attention one those distributions that we know have a certain market share and receive updates (or patches as you have called them before) for a longer time. This also means that distributions that only have a short livespan, such as Fedora, OpenSuse or non-LTS releases of Ubuntu are not our primary choice, but provided as-is for community members to play with it.

just as stated before, the name Kopano is still quite new, and therefore you won’t find too many posts in this forum. The majority of interaction can be found in the “old” Zarafa forums at https://forums.zarafa.com/. We just did not want to migrate all the data. We also see quite a big community around us. Over the years we have developed quite a big partner network, Z-Push (which was initiated by Zarafa) is used in a lot of different software projects and during the last fosdem we also received a lot of positive feedback.
Please don’t regard this as an attack, but I also think that you aggressive bumping did not help with the situation. Over at the mangolassi forum you wrote somewhere, that you were now already the second most active poster here. (too lazy to search for that post right now). You came, flodded the forum with posts, and some users felt they needed to act on it.
