What happens if the subscription to kopano one runs out?
Its clear that there won’t be any updates - but will it stay usable at the current state?I’m afraid (as it already happened to other products we’ve been using) that after the vendor changed the product to something that didn’t fit our requirements or went out of business after being aquired by another company that will have a bad impact on something as important as our mail infrastructure…
So whats the strategy there…

Its clear that there won’t be any updates - but will it stay usable at the current state?You can easily simulate what happens when you remove your license key and restart the kustomerd process (a restart may not be necessary as the service was afaik design to detect changes license files directly).
Since the repo is public you would still be able to update your installed version, but with the absence of a valid license you will no longer be able to create new users. There may be other hints so softly nudge you to renew subscription, but I haven’t followed up personally which of them actually got implemented so far. Out sales team should be able to provide you with more exact details.

This why digital sovereignty is important when it comes to infrastructure components such as your mails. Kopano is 100% open source, so even if Kopano as a company would cease to exist you would still have access to the source code (its mirrored to Github) and make your own adjustments.

And the hard version
deactivate the autostart customer service
(systemctl disable kopano-kustomerd.service)
reboot the server and open the web app
No more work possible;)
