DeskApp 1.3 RC is now available!
-
DeskApp is designed to be the bridge between WebApp and the desktop. DeskApp adds features a web application in a browser can’t, such as being set as the default email client, integrate with the file system to send any file as an attachment. DeskApp 1.3 will introduce two major features: a download manager which allows the user to easily access and manage attachments and files that have been downloaded and a provisioning toolkit that allows network administrators to be in control of the DeskApp installations in their network. In addition it also introduces support for proxies, client side spellcheckers and enhanced security options.
What’s new?
DeskApp 1.3 is quite feature packed and an upgrade will benefit both the user and the administrator. We’d like to share some highlights of the two major features.Download manager
The download manager gives the control over downloads to the user. This new version introduces ‘download history’, which shows a list of all attachments that have been downloaded to the local system. Files from any of the backends accessible in the Files plugin are also tracked. The standard download location for files can be configured through settings, as well as the default action to perform after a file has been downloaded (e.g. save or open).Provisioning toolkit
Rolling out DeskApp in your organization is made easier by the provisioning toolkit. It introduces multiple methods that can be used in mass-deployment scenarios. DeskApp can be configured using environment variables for simple settings, or more complex settings and multiple profiles can be configured using an ini file. Examples of admin configurable settings include the WebApp server to use, the user name or what type of authentication to use. More details and examples can be found in the documentation.Features and fixes
This release also introduces various other features and a few bug fixes:- Enhanced security: always ask password on login
- Enhanced proxy support: support for proxies that require authentication
- Usability enhancement: Support for additional native spell checkers
- Bug fix: Crash while printing an item on OSX
- Bug fix: Password decryption failures.
- Bug fix: Image data not copied
And much more. The full changelog can be found here.
