migrating from Zimbra, looking for comments and experiences
-
Hi all.
I’ve had Zimbra FOSS for a while and the writing on the wall is clearer and clearer since Synacor bought them, they are going the way of closed source paid(just like Vyatta did when acquired by Brocade, just slower than Brocade was). They recently made a major release but only for the paid version(which is a first for them).
I’ve had a look at Kopano, and it looks good and I’d like to start testing it out.
I prefer to run my servers on Ubuntu LTS, and I believe that Kopano core will run on Ubuntu 20.04.
I’ll be starting with this guide.
https://documentation.kopano.io/kopanocore_administrator_manual/installing.html
To be clear, I’m not asking for help in installing it, as that’s the role of RTFM as a starting point.
Can anyone please share any comments or experience with moving from Zimbra FOSS and/or running this on Ubuntu?

Hi Stephen,
I recently switched to Kopano from Zimbra. The overall experience was okay, but I miss the admin panel! Zimbra was alot simpler to setup (installation & configuration) and administer than Kopano. Also, there is no nightly admin status report in Kopano, which is a shame!
Kopano’s webapp interface is much nicer in my opinion then that of Zimbra’s WebClient which was kind of dated.
Kopano has a builtin backup tool, which is cool. It was also quite easy to integrate ownCloud.Russell

What kind of information did that report include that are valuable to you?

The nightly reports contained information on total transactions (send & receive), smtp and authentication errors, spam and virus counts, etc…
