Kopano meet PWA works as app on IOS?

  • Hi. I’ve been testing Kopano Meet (Kopano Docker - kopano.demo) with Android and IOS clients. On Android, I opened the URL/meet with Chrome, added it to the Home Screen and everything worked as expected, like an app.
On IOS, using Safari, just created a shortcut. It’s not working as an app. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. It’s necessary do something on client side to Kopano Meet work as an app on IOS?

    Hi @hsantos,

ist that with the current latest version? Which version of iOS are you using?

Sadly some pwa stuff does not work as good in Safari as is does on other platforms (like a pwa can afair not have access to your microphone) but the general integration bits should nonetheless work.

  • Thanks for your answer.
    I’m using IOS 12.2 (iPhone).

I have read your manual (https://documentation.kopano.io/kopano_meet_manual/) and have accessed the URL https: //kopano.demo/meet to make a video call and add the icon to the home screen (PWA). On Android, as I said, it worked fine. On IOS I could not do the video call and only a shortcut was added in the home screen. When I access this shortcut it opens the browser normally and does not look like an app as it happens in android.
I did a little research on google about PWAs and read that in IOS there were still some limitations such as push notifications or WebRTC due to camera and microphone access problems. This may be the reason, why I can not properly generate the PWA and make the video call? Or just my mistake?

You provide online, an interface for desktop testing, but not for mobile. Do not have a demo to test Kopano Meet on mobile?

I’m testing different video call solutions. Having mobile app for Android and IOS is required. PWAs may be a good solution, but in that case, I had some doubts if works in IOS.
    Regards

yes, this is indeed how it is implemented for iOS at the moment. Since PWAs there cannot make use of camera/microphone when opening the app from the homescreen it opens directly in safari. Apple would need to life these restrictions so Meet could be opened there as a proper PWA.

I guess you are referring to https://kopano.com/kopano-demo-request/ is that correct? the check if someone comes from mobile or desktop was made there because our old client cannot reasonably be used on mobile devices (webapp is simply not responsive enough for that). as far as I know a new demo including meet is still in the works. but as long as that is not there the docker project you found can serve the same purpose (minus some already imported demo data).
