sort by categories and preview window

it’s just for the workflow:
if you have
*) no preview window
-) you can sort by categories
-) you can not set category for a mail by clicking the icon*) the preview window on the right
-) you can not sort by categories
-) you can set category for a mail by clicking the icon*) the preview window on the lower position
-) you can sort by categories
-) you can not set category for a mail by clicking the iconis there a possibility, to bring that to par??
