SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_NOTE and backend

Hi!
This element of Combined backend shouldn’t be synced with imap instead of Caldav?. I say it because for instance Apple uses imap notes …
Thanks mates!!

Hi egoitzau,
it’s up to everyone to decide which backend to use to sync with a certain folder type, that’s why it’s in the config file.

Hi Manfred,
Sure but… I assume each element should have to be synced with each unique backend… notes can be multiple backend synced?. I mean for instance a contact… would only be able to be synced with carddav…
Thanks!!

Hi egoitzau,
I’m not sure if I understood you correctly regarding multiple backend sync. Yes, each of the folder types available syncs with a unique backend. A backend however can server various folder types. E.g. imap is able to serve SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_INBOX, SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_SENTMAIL or SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_OUTBOX as they all contain email items. BackendCalDAV is able to SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_TASK and SYNC_FOLDER_TYPE_APPOINTMENT. But it’s not possible to sync one folder type with multiple backends only using Z-Push. If you have a structure where notes are e.g. in imap and caldav, you have to sync imap and caldav between themselves first, so that they have the same notes and then configure one of them to sync notes in Z-Push.

Hi Manfred,
Thanks a lot mate. A couple of questions… you said you need to sync caldav with imap for syncing notes?. Why?. Can’t you directly use notes with IMAP?. How can Outlook notes be synced?. With IMAP then?. I’m pretty interested in syncing notes but don’t know how really do it.
Thanks a lot for clarifying me.
Cheers!

No, this is a misunderstanding. The given example was stating that you cannot sync one folder type with multiple backends at the same time.

If your client supports syncing notes (which afair Outlook does not out of the box) then you can use any backend that supports notes folders. Kopano does for example.

So Felix, then IMAP backend, supports syncing notes?

I do not know, since I am not using it.
