PST-Viewer inside of Kopano Deskapp

Hi,
why not using Archiv solution like Kopano Archiver or like me Mailstore (with intranet plugin you can integrate Mailstore Web Access easily)

For https://www.benno-mailarchiv.de/ there is a plugin for the WebApp as well
-
Well, these solutions are very nice, but it all stands and falls with the costs.
We are not in the position to invest a lot of money for this. :-/
-
So have a look at Mailstore https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-server/how-to-buy/
We also where looking for a good and cheap product - and this is all we got with that product
(as you may see in the price table you only have to pay initial - there is 1 year software maintenance and Support included - and optional you may buy update&support after first year with minimal charge and as it says optional - so you may only pay once for 1 year and may use the product after the first year without any cost)rg

@mcdaniels support for opening PST files has been investigated in the past, but this is not an option for us with WebApp.
One of the upcoming releases of DeskApp will support opening .eml files - so if you could export the data from the pst to disk you can open the individual items if it is required.
If you want the data + folder structure available in WebApp/DeskApp, you could import them into the mailboxes.

It would be nice if there would be an Plugin in Deskapp for this. We have got a lot of complains of our users cause this is not working, while rolling out Kopano Deskapp…
-
@mcdaniels ah, apologies for the confusion. Where I wrote WebApp, I should have written DeskApp instead…
We investigated the possibilities, but there are no options available at this time.

I thought of something like a pst-viewer, which is included in Deskapp via plugins.
Perhaps it will be possible someday. ;-)
Anyway Kopano is some great “piece” of software.

yes, correct. My users build up a horrible pressure to the IT on this.
They want to archive their mails and have access to it if necessary.
Fact is:
PST is not possible
and all other solutions cost moneySo, in fact the company can take some money and buy an archiving solution, or you do not have an archive.
Sidenote:
This is not the issue of this thread, but we (if in EU) should also think about the DSGVO. So it might not be allowed to archive emails forever, if there is no real cause to do so… -

I think this is at least some option to the users. EML-Files are still opened via Outlook at the moment.
In connection to EML, it would be nice if you can export all emails to EML at once, or at least via from date <…> to date <…>.

whatever works in WebApp also works in DeskApp

Fact is:
PST is not possibleEven if you don’t want to import the pst file back into Kopano, then there still are third party tools to inspect these. A quick search comes up with https://www.nucleustechnologies.com/free-tools.html

@mcdaniels I’ve had success exporting data from PST files in the past with tools like readpst
~# readpst -e -r -o <outputdir> pstfile.pst
https://www.systutorials.com/docs/linux/man/1-readpst/ (in the pst-utils package in Ubuntu 18.04 for example)

Thanks for your replies and the links.
The best would be, if the user can easily export mails and also view them in the DeskApp.
The function to export eml and also view them in DeskApp will be great.
Will it be possible to export the whole inbox to .eml? (I don’t know the limitations concerning this…)
