Our employees would like to have the ability to make video-conferencing, sharing the desktop view, invitations to video conferencing etc… without the need to install any application

What you are describing is the feature set of Kopano Meet. You can give it a try at https://meet-app.io/.

        Hi Felix,

did I understood correctly that Meet has nothing to do with Kopano at all? does it need Kopano or not to work with? Can employees create invitations to internal/external people for video conference meetings and plan/save it in also in their Kopano calendar ?

can you explain in short what Mattermost is for? what’s the difference mattermost vs. Meet ?

          Hi @micro,

Kopano Meet is the first application out of a new generation of Kopano apps, that do not depend on the Kopano Groupware stack to function. This was done so that you can use Meet even though you are unable or unwilling to use Kopano as a groupware product.

At the moment there is no direct integration with the Kopano WebApp so you’d have to put the Meet link into an invitation yourself. The good news is that the WebApp integration seems to be making progress so it could be available soon.

Mattermost is a chat platform and does not have a relation to Kopano Meet.

          Regards Felix

Felix, thanks for the helpful information. Still two more questions:

            a) what benefits will have the WebApp integration of Meet?

            b) I did find a documentation of installing Meet into GNU/Linux and now I am confused. What is this good for? Actually I thought there is no need for installing anything to have Meet run ?

The features I have seen demoed in the past were the ability to add a meet link to a meeting request and a visual integration so you can directly use the meet ui from within WebApp.

Not quite sure what you are referring to. You have to install it on your server for your users to use it.

confused now :) When I look into https://meet-app.io/ I can for example use the FREE/unsupported version which will work for 10 users and 2 concurrent group meetings.

Does it need to install anything on my Kopano server to have this work?

When I click at the Meet packages, I see this is a paid service ? at the same mentioned web page I can click onto “Unsupported free version without registration” I see an installation manual.

Meet is at first a piece of software (just like Kopano Groupware is). If you want your users to use it you need to install it on your server. For your users to use it they will not need to install any further applications, but simply open Meet in their browser.

I should add that there is also a ready to use version hosted at https://splash.meet-app.io/ (more about that in https://kopano.com/blog/video-conferencing-during-the-coronavirus-crisis/).

Similar to Groupware Kopano Meet is open source, you can (and imho you should) buy a subscription to receive support.

                    I think I understood. In a nutshell:

if someone don’t mind the use of public video conferencing rooms he can easily visit https://meet-app.io

if someone wants to use private rooms which are not able to be entered by anyone that knows the invitation link, then he should install Meet on his own server. If so, he can decide to use the free unsupported version which allows 10 users with an account and 2 concurrent group video conference meetings or choosing the starter edition for €75 / month as shown in the pricing info page.

                    right?
